Josef Gugler

Josef Gugler jusqu’à récemment enseignait au département de sociologie de l’Université du Connecticut où il avait dirigé le Center for Contemporary African Studies. Auparavant, il avait dirigé le programme de sociologie et d’ethnologie du Makerere Institute of Social Research (Ouganda). Il a par ailleurs effectué des recherches et enseigné au Congo (Kinshasa), Kenya, Nigeria et en Tanzanie.

Josef Gugler is Professor Emeritus of Sociology at the University of Connecticut, where he continues to teach on the cinemas of the Middle East and Africa. A late convert to film studies, he is the author of African Film: Re-Imagining a Continent. He served as a member of the jury for long fiction films at Pan Africa International, Montreal, 2010.
