Lilia Labidi is a Tunisian anthropologist and psychoanalyst, author of books and articles on the situation of women and women’s rights in Tunisia and the Arab world, including Çabra Hachma, sexualité et tradition (awarded the Prix de la Foire Internationale, Tunis, 1989) and Judhur al-harakat al-nisa’iyya: riwayaat li-shakhsiyyaat tarikhiyya (Origins of feminist movements in Tunisia: personal history narratives), republished several times. She has directed a research program on The Construction of Public Morality in the Arab World and Africa, edited a number of collective works, organized national and international conferences as well as documentary and photographic exhibits, happenings, and installations on the condition of women. She is currently Visiting Research Professor at the Middle East Institute, National University of Singapore, and is preparing a book on Arab women scientists in the region and in the diaspora.
