The Likoma Summer Festival (li-SURF) was initially commenced as a cultural summer festival (with a modernized touch ). The event organized by Likoma Islanders started August 2014, in the Island District. From 2015 onwards it has been decided to have the festival over Easter holidays to allow people more time on the Island. The name has therefore changed to Likoma Festival (li-Fest). This is aimed at promoting tourism to Island District while at the same time providing people with an opportunity to learn, earn, enjoy and advance their lives. On the other hand, the Festival will be providing a continuous and better environment of fun to people from all over the world. While we are not only targeting Islanders, but we expect a good number of people who have never visited the Islands since they were born to be excited about visiting Chizumulu and Likoma Islands during the festival thereby promoting tourism in Malawi which has been government key agenda.
