Fashion Collective Market

English

A new fashion show, Fashion Collective Market (FCM) is set to be launched on Sunday September 28 at the Palm Estate in Greystone Park.

Themed ‘Retfro bass summer 2014’, the event celebrates local upcoming and independent fashion design talent in Zimbabwe.

There will be an exhibition by designers of various styles which include bridal wear, safari wear amongst many others.

Zimbo Jam caught up with Danayi Chipfika and Rudo Nondo, two designers who will be present at the event and launch and shared a bit on what the event will be like.

“FCM is a market by designers for designers. We are running a long term initiative to promote our local brands rather than having to import clothing from China and South Africa which are our two major competitors in terms of fashion,” said Chipfika.

“This event will be a free market for all participating designers as they will be able to showcase their designs and hopefully get some clients who will bring in money so as to keep the designer going since we are still very young and with no capital,” added Chipfika.

“The theme is inspired by the 1990’s fashion, back then a person could wear a skirt and trainers something that seems to be a no no these days but we are saying those were the best days in the fashion industry and it would be really cool to go back there,” said Nondo.

“The event will take place at every quarter as it is a moving market this is however subject to change as it is a possibility that more events maybe held during the festival season.

“Because of our theme we encouraging and pleading with those who will come through to our event to come dressed in the 90s fashion just for the fun of it,” added Nondo.

Some of the designers expected at the event include Nadine Nemimba a bridal designer, Gwinyai Mabika the man behind the #NDNM brand, Farida Jarida and Tanya Nefatari.
