Exhibition: ‘Structures’ by mixed media artist Zerihun Seyoum

English

Ethiopian artist Zerihun Seyoum is back in town!

In January last year, he had an exhibition at Carol Lee’s One Off Contemporary Art Gallery. This time he has a solo show at the Talisman restaurant. It runs from Tuesday August 26th to Sunday September 14th.

Seyoum studied Painting at Addis Ababa University School of Fine Art and Design(2000) and devoted himself to teaching art for three years before focusing on his own career as an artist.

He has a studio in Addis called ‘Embassy of Ideas’ where he welcomes artists and visitors from across the globe.

Seyoum has exhibited his artwork from Djibouti and Addis Ababa to New York, Frankfurt and Paris.

His current exhibition includes approximately 30 paintings created using a bold palette and interesting geometric patterns. The exhibition is a continuation of his exploration of ‘structures.

Playing with infrastructural framework,  beamwork, interior architecture, steps, stages and multi-stories, his imagery evokes the rapid growth spurt that Addis Ababa is  enduring. Seyoum appears to be investigating the make-up of ideas and existence; Looking at the substructures of our cities might be compared to looking at  the complex components and the multiple frequencies on which our minds can operate.
