LaBa Arts Festival

English

The LaBa! is one of the oldest art festivals in Kampala (since 2007), being organized by the Goethe-Zentrum Kampala/ Ugandan German Cultural Society (GZK/ UGCS) and a Committee of artists and persons engaged in the cultural sector.

LaBa! aims to reach out to a public wider than the one reached through galleries, theatres and other « typical » cultural spaces, therefore the festival takes places in different public places. It shows the audience the current movements of the Ugandan art scene, and challenges the artists to come up with new concepts, projects and collaborations through the setting and the theme of the festival.

LaBa!  wants to show the relevance of art for a society in terms of art being an important medium to empower communities and to respond to the reality of social and political life.

The 8th edition of the LaBa! Arts Festival will happen on Saturday 7th June 2014 at Kisementi Parking Lot, Kampala and Sunday 8th June 2014 at Kabega Road, Nsambya, Kampala under the theme « The City is our Space ». Through a Call for Proposals artists are invited to come up with projects to intervene in the spaces and interact with the audiences.
