Né en 1957 à Sousse (Tunisie), après des études au lycée technique de sa ville natale, en 1979 il se transfère à Pérouse en Italie ou il fréquente l’Università Italiana per Stranieri.
En 1983 avec l’aide d’un groupe d’amis il crée le Giornate del Cinema Africano di Perugia premier festival dédié au cinéma africain en Italie. Il y assure la direction artistique jusqu’à 1994.
Depuis 1986 il vit et travaille entre la Tunisie et Milan ou il est collaborateur pour quelques années de Radio Popolare et depuis 1990 est organisateur de la manifestation culturelle Le Ultime Carovane, une initiative multidisciplinaire dédiée à la promotion des cultures du continent africain.
En 1992 il publie son premier livre photographique Les Enfants du Sud, un hommage à l’enfance en Afrique dont les photos ont été exposées dans une trentaine de villes d’Afrique et d’Europe. En 1994 il rentre en Tunisie pour travailler pour les Journées Cinématographiques de Carthage comme délégué général de cette manifestation du cinéma arabo africain.
En 1995 il fréquente un stage de production en trois cycles auprès de la FEMIS.
Entre 1992 et 1996 il est co-auteur et producteur de : Italiens de l’autre Rive, un documentaire réalisé par Mahmoud Ben Mahmoud sur la mémoire de la communauté italienne de Tunisie et puis il est producteur de Anastasia de Bizerte, film réalisé aussi par Ben Mahmoud. Ce documentaire, sélectionné par la Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica di Venezia, raconte l’histoire des 6000 réfugiés de la marine impériale russe qui fuyant la révolution Bolchevique sont finis à Bizerte.

De 1996 à 2010 il s’occupe de la programmation extra-compétition officielle au Festivaldel Cinéma Africano, d’Asia e d’America Latina di Milano (hommages, rétrospectives et sections spéciales).
De 2000 à 2003 il est collaborateur du Festival International du Film Locarno.

En 2000 il est réalisateur et producteur de : Ouaga, Capitale du Cinéma, film sélectionné par la Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica di Venezia et puis diffusé par Tele+ et Raitre.
En 2004 il travaille avec le Piccolo Teatro di Milano pour l’organisation du Festival del Mediterraneo.

Depuis 2005 il est fondateur et directeur artistique des Rencontres Cinématographiques de Hergla, une manifestation dédiée à la promotion du court métrage et du documentaire d’Afrique et de la Méditerranée une occasion de rencontre et de dialogue entre le Nord et le Sud du Sahara et entre les deux rives de la Méditerranée.
En 2009 il réalise le documentaire Mezzo secolo per un mondo intero
En 2012 il est de nouveau dans l’équipe artistique des Journées Cinématographiques de Cartage J.C.C.
En 2015 il finit la post production de son nouveau long métrage Documentaire Tahar Cheriaa L’Ombre du Baobab un film portrait du père du cinéma tunisien et fondateur en 1966 des Journées Cinématographiques de Carthage.
Le Film a été présenté dans plusieurs festivals : au Madagascar, en Egypte, en Tunisie, au Maroc, en Allemagne, au Cameroun, en France, au Sénégal, au Burkina, au Mali, au Portugal, aux USA et en Afrique du Sud.
Depuis 2015 il organise à Sousse, en Tunisie, avec la collaboration de Il Cinéma Ritrovato la première manifestation Cinématographique sur le film du patrimoine intitulée Cinéma au Musée et dédier complètement à la mémoire cinématographique tunisienne et mondiale.
En 2016 il est directeur artistique du programme du 50° anniversaire des J.C.C et du Colloque international « Patrimoine Cinématographique en Péril« 
En 2017-2018 il est Conseiller Artistique, chargé des Relations Extérieures à la Cinémathèque tunisienne.

Photographer, director and Les Rencontres Cinématographiques de Hergla’s art director, Tunisia

He was born in 1957 in Sousse (Tunisia). In 1983 with some help from a group of friends he created « Le Giornate del Cinema Africano di Perugia » and he attended to its artistic direction until 1994. Since 1986 has lived in Milan where cooperated with Radio Popolare for some years and organized the cultural event called « Le Ultime Carovane ». In 1992 he realised his first photographic book called « I Figli del Sud » and organized the homonym show dedicated to childhood in Africa (exhibited in more than thirty African and European cities such as Tunisi, Ouagadougou, Susa, Copenaghen, Rome, Milan, Paris, Perugia, Modena,and now at the Potenza International Film Festival). In 1994 he came back for a year in Tunisia to attend to the artistic direction of « Giornate Cinematografiche di Cartagine », the first African cinema festival. Between 1992 and 1996 he was the co-author and producer of « Italiani dell’altra Riva », a documentary about memory of Italian community of Tunisia and then produced the film « Anastasia di Bizerta » that was selected for Venice Cinematographic Art Exhibition that told the story of the refugees of the Russian imperial navy in the north of Tunisia in 1920. Both films were created by Mahmoud Ben Mahmoud and broadcast in Italy by Raitre. Since 1996 he has been cooperating with the « Festival Del Cinema d’Africa, d’Asia e di America latina di Milano » and works in the events related to the official Festival competition. From 2000 to 2003 he cooperated with the « Festival Internazionale del Film di Locarno ». In 2001 he produced and directed the documentary « Ouga Capitaledel Cinema », selected for Venice Cinema Exhibition in the same year and broadcast in Italy by Tele+. In 2004 he cooperated with « Il Piccolo Teatro di Milano » for the « Festival del Mediterraneo ». Since 2005 he has been the founder and artistic director of the Rencontres Cinématographiques de Hergla, an event dedicated to the promotion of short films and documentaries from Africa and the Mediterranean, an opportunity for meeting and dialogue between the North and South of the Sahara and between the two shores of the Mediterranean.
In 2009 he directed the documentary Mezzo secolo per un mondo intero.
In 2012 he is again in the artistic team of the Journées Cinématographiques de Cartage J.C.C.
In 2015 he finished the post-production of his new feature documentary film Tahar Cheriaa L’Ombre du Baobab, a film portrait of the father of Tunisian cinema and founder in 1966 of the Carthage Film Festival.
The film has been presented in several festivals: in Madagascar, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Germany, Cameroon, France, Senegal, Burkina, Mali, Portugal, USA and South Africa.
Since 2015 it organizes in Sousse, Tunisia, with the collaboration of Il Cinema Ritrovato the first Cinematographic event on heritage film entitled Cinema at the Museum and completely dedicated to the Tunisian and world cinematographic memory.
In 2016 he is the artistic director of the program of the 50th anniversary of the J.C.C. and of the International Colloquium « Cinema Heritage in Peril ».
In 2017-2018 he is Artistic Advisor, in charge of External Relations at the Tunisian Cinematheque.

Mohamed Challouf è nato nel 1957 in Tunisia.

Dal 2000 al 2003 è collaboratore del « Festival Internazionale del Film di Locarno ». Nel 2001 è produttore e regista del documentario « Ouaga Capitale del Cinema », selezionato per la Mostra del Cinema di Venezia dello stesso anno e diffuso in Italia da Tele+. Nel 2004 collabora con « Il Piccolo Teatro di Milano » per il Festival del Mediterraneo. Dal 2005 è fondatore e direttore artistico dei Rencontres Cinématographiques de Hergla, un evento dedicato alla promozione di cortometraggi e documentari provenienti dall’Africa e dal Mediterraneo, un’occasione di incontro e dialogo tra il Nord e il Sud del Sahara e tra le due sponde del Mediterraneo.
Nel 2009 ha diretto il documentario Mezzo secolo per un mondo intero.
Nel 2012 è tornato nel team artistico della Cartage J.C.C. Cartage
Nel 2015 ha terminato la post-produzione del suo nuovo lungometraggio documentario Tahar Cheriaa L’Ombre du Baobab, ritratto cinematografico del padre del cinema tunisino e fondatore nel 1966 del Festival di Cartagine.
Il film è stato presentato in diversi festival: in Madagascar, Egitto, Tunisia, Marocco, Germania, Camerun, Francia, Senegal, Burkina, Mali, Portogallo, USA e Sud Africa.
Dal 2015 organizza a Sousse, in Tunisia, con la collaborazione de Il Cinema Ritrovato, il primo evento cinematografico sul cinema del patrimonio cinematografico intitolato Cinema al Museo e completamente dedicato alla memoria cinematografica tunisina e mondiale.
Nel 2016 è direttore artistico del programma del 50° anniversario del J.C.C. e del Colloquio Internazionale « Cinema Heritage in Peril ».
Nel 2017-2018 è Consigliere Artistico, responsabile delle Relazioni Esterne della Cineteca Tunisina.
