Même le vent…

I seem to remember that when he was once asked about the reasons for his connection with Africa, Laurence Attali replied, « a love story, of course ». This is what Même le vent… discretely tells us of. Dedicated « to my guardian angel » , the short film cleverly combines encounters and poetry, telling of a love for a country – Senegal – and it’s language – Wolof, « a language I have the impression that I understand ». Immediately placed under the ensign of Djibril Diop Mambety, who constantly asked himself where the wind went, it has a playful parody that can be attributed to him. For example, after talk about the male sex, and then the female sex, the designer Oumou Sy appears dragging a heavy trunk … This sunny film transmits a happy kind of jubilation, that of Cheikh Lô happily developping ritual greetings, or of Isseu Niang, the great Senegalese actress, whispering about « a body in love is worth two not ». And even if the end result is a wedding, the bond made is with the wind, in order to learn to see the hidden side of things.
